Our union family has suffered greatly during this pandemic, including seeing four members pass away from COVID-19 and over 1,000 of members miss work, almost always unpaid, after being exposed to the virus.

We honor and remember those we’ve, and remain committed to carry their memory forward as we fight to improve working conditions for all people in our state.
While essential workers like janitors, security officers, airport workers, window cleaners and more have risked our health to keep our state running, the executives and CEOs who worked from home have taken even more for themselves. A recent report showed that CEO pay is UP 70% in the last year. This is wrong!
Frontline Worker Pay
Members of our union have rallies, send in thousands of letters to politicians, spoken at hearings and even lobbied our Governor and Lt. Governor to take action on Frontline Worker Pay. We believe that the people who stepped up to keep our state running deserve more than just kind words about being “heroes” from those in power. While we will continue to push our employers to do better, we’ve spent months fighting to win pay for essential workers in our union.
At the end of June, the legislature and Governor Walz agreed to a $250 million fund that will go to Frontline Workers. There is currently a nine member “working group” that will decide who gets the money and how much they get. The working group had their first hearing on July 28th, and many members of SEIU testified to make sure the $250 million is just the first step in honoring workers and that the money gets into the hands of essential workers as soon as possible in as easy of a way as they can figure out.

The working group has until Sept 6th to decide how to spend the money, and we will continue the work of pushing them to make sure this money gets into the hands of the workers who did so much for our state over the last year.
